The part on the left is the most specific, and the part on the right is the most general. A given machine may have more than one Domain Name but a given Domain Name points to only one machine. You can purchase a domain name from a number of sources, some domain names come bundled with a hosting plan as well. If the domain that you want is already taken you can make an offer to purchase the domain name from the owner. The price of the domain name could be priced into the thousands, depending on what the owner thinks it could be worth.
